About The Position

The position is for a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the Neurosurgery department at a Level I Trauma Center. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing and graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant with specialization in area of practice
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in the identified area of expertise
  • Unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Colorado
  • Physician Assistant Certification (PA-C) issued by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe all medications commonly prescribed in the course of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification or must be obtained within one year from date of hire
  • Nurse Practitioner Certification issued by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or AANPCB
  • Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license issued by the State Board of Nursing in the state of practice or compact privileges under the multi-state Nurse Licensure Compact agreement
  • RNFA certification or must be obtained within one year from date of hire
  • Full prescriptive authority

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a Level I Trauma Center
  • Experience in Neurosurgery or related field

Responsibilities

  • Assess and consult on new patients
  • Perform follow-up visits in clinic
  • First assist with some OR exposure
  • Obtain patient history and perform assessment via observation, interview, and examination
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies
  • Perform preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations, and care
  • Provide direct treatment and management of health conditions, including use of prescriptive authority and referral to other healthcare providers or community resources
  • Provide counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health and wellness, treatment options, and community resources
  • Provide inpatient care including preoperative, intra-operative, and post-operative services, as well as critical care/intensive care medical management
  • Utilize critical thinking skills and decisive judgment while working with minimal supervision
  • Adapt to a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action
