About The Position

The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our General Surgery practice and surgical care team. The PA/NP will work under specific accreditation standards in collaboration with an attending physician to develop and implement direct care for General Surgery patients. This position will be primarily clinic-based with regularly scheduled shifts in the OR at both the Main Campus Hospital and UVMMC’s Fanny Allen Campus. This is a 1.0 FTE exempt position that will be scheduled to work five 8-hr shifts per week: 8am – 4:30pm Monday-Friday. No call or weekends required. Occasional adjustments to this schedule may be made to accommodate earlier starts based on OR support or patient care needs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Current (or eligible) certification to practice as an APRN from the VT State Board of Nursing or as a PA from the VT State Board of Medical Practice.
  • Successful completion of an APRN or PA educational program recognized by the State of Vermont: PA: Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program (prior to January 2001 – Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs).
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.
  • NP: Completion of a master's, post-master's, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years full-time clinical PA/NP experience preferred.
  • Ideal candidates will have 2+ years of OR experience with priority being given to applicants with Surgical First Assist and robotic surgery experience.
  • New PA/NP graduates with substantial prior direct patient care and/or OR experience who demonstrate a dedicated interest in a surgical specialty may be considered.
  • Active RNFA certification desired, or willingness/ability to obtain within one year of hire.
