About The Position

The Part-Time Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner at Hackensack University Medical Center for Weight Loss/Bariatric Surgery plays a crucial role in assisting, monitoring, and managing the daily needs of patients under the supervision of a physician. This part-time position involves outpatient care with one day dedicated to telemedicine, requiring a commitment of 20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved physician's assistant program accredited by the AMA Council on Medical Education.
  • Physician Assistant License.
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certified Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) within one year of initial employment.
  • Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing.
  • Master's degree in nursing.
  • Maintains clinical competencies through continuing education and clinical practice as mandated by the Board of Nursing.
  • Experience in a relevant patient care setting or as regulations dictate.
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
  • Advance Practice Nurse License.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains a detailed and accurate history, identifies problems, and presents information to the supervising physician.
  • Orders or prescribes medication in accordance with protocols or specific MD directions, ensuring proper documentation and signatures.
  • Assists a supervising surgeon in the operating room when a qualified assistant physician is not required.
  • Assists the supervising physician in a procedure room when deemed necessary.
  • Writes post-operative/post-procedure notes and orders for the supervising physician.
  • Manages post-procedure care of patients as requested by the primary physician.
  • Starts IVs, inserts foley catheters and nasogastric tubes, and performs other clinical procedures as needed.
  • Participates in research trials by collecting, aggregating, and entering data.
  • Identifies and modifies care based on the specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
