About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant role at the University of Vermont Medical Center involves providing comprehensive health care to patients in various states of health or illness. This position requires collaboration with physicians and encompasses direct patient care, wound care, educational teaching for residents, clinical research, and quality improvement initiatives. The role is part-time, requiring two 10-hour shifts per week, with a rotating schedule that includes one weekend every eight weeks.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program or equivalent for PA applicants.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred for PA applicants.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required for PA applicants.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the Vermont Board of Medical Practice for PA applicants.
  • Registered nurse with formal education approved by the Vermont Board of Nursing for NP applicants.
  • Certification by a national certifying agency recognized by the Vermont State Board of Nursing for NP applicants.
  • Previous experience as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant is desired.
  • Prior experience in Acute Care Surgery/Trauma and/or General Surgery is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive health care to patients in various states of health or illness.
  • Collaborate with one or more physicians to deliver patient care.
  • Develop and implement direct care to Acute Care Surgery patients in collaboration with an attending physician.
  • Provide direct care on the in-patient service and in the ambulatory clinic setting.
  • Conduct educational teaching for residents.
  • Engage in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
