This role is for a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in a non-operative capacity, involving clinical consultation, assessment, and management of patients, as well as outpatient evaluation, treatment, and follow-up of surgical patients under the direction of a supervising physician. The position requires travel to Westchester twice a month.

Requirements

  • NP licensure (for Nurse Practitioner candidates)
  • BLS/ACLS certification
  • NCCPA board certification (for Physician Assistant candidates)
  • Graduated from an accredited NP program (for Nurse Practitioner candidates)
  • Current NYS licensure (for Nurse Practitioner candidates)
  • ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) certification (for Nurse Practitioner candidates)
  • Current Infection Control Certification
  • Completed a child abuse recognition course
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Team player
  • Strong clinical skills

  • Previous experience in orthopedics

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical consultation, assessment, and management to patients.
  • Conduct outpatient evaluation, treatment and follow-up of surgical patients as directed by the supervising physician.
  • Provide pre and post-operative and discharge education to patients and family members with regards to safety issues when applicable (e.g., medication, post-operative precautions, use of equipment, etc.).
  • Review/interpret patient imaging and lab results; communicate results to patients and provide follow-up treatment and education.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately when educating patient/family in regard to their medical condition and/or hospital course.
  • Document progress patient has made toward desired outcomes.
  • Utilize the computerized order communication system, including transcription of medical orders, retrieval of test results and documentation of results.
  • Maintain clear and legible history and physical documentation and all other written reports.
  • Work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Complete any relevant patient paperwork such as medication prior authorizations, plan of care, etc.
  • Potential to assist surgeon in operating room.
  • Promote cooperation through teamwork.
  • Other duties as needed for effective and safe patient care.
