About The Position
The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) will function as an integral member of the surgical team, providing advanced practitioner support in the pre- and post-operative settings, inpatient/outpatient care areas and operating room. The provider will work closely with surgeons, residents, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care. This position will be somewhat specialty-specific, focusing on assigned surgical subspecialties, but will also require cross-training to provide coverage in the absence of residents or a surgeon’s primary physician assistant or nurse practitioner.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current, valid state license (PA or NP) and appropriate certification (NCCPA or ANCC/AANP).
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications .
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Nice To Haves
- Minimum of 1–2 years of surgical or perioperative experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the surgeon in preparation for surgery
- Conduct pre- and post-operative patient evaluations, rounds, and documentation.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests as appropriate and communicate findings to the surgical team.
- Provide cross-coverage in the Medical Group and support across specialties as appropriate .
- Participate in the development and implementation of patient care plans.
- Assists during surgical procedures, following all applicable standards and protocols.
- Perform wound closure, dressing application, and post-operative care as directed by the attending surgeon
- Monitor and optimize patient flow in inpatient and outpatient settings to reduce delays and improve throughput.
- Collaborate with scheduling teams to ensure efficient use of operating room time and resources.
- Support compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in ongoing education, training, and skills development to maintain cross-specialty competency.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and departmental goals.
