About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team at Stanford Health Care. This role will focus on evaluating pediatric patients upon arrival at the Emergency Department (ED), conducting medical screening exams, and providing appropriate care for lower acuity cases. The NP or PA will manage these patients independently, performing procedures, placing orders, and ensuring timely follow-up until patient disposition. For higher acuity cases, the clinician will work under the direct oversight of an attending physician. This position offers the opportunity for hands-on clinical experience with a wide variety of pediatric cases, ranging from minor injuries to more complex conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited university.
  • Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
  • PA - Physician Assistant State Licensure.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification.
  • DEA - Drug Enforcement Administration registration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform triage assessments on all pediatric patients entering the ED.
  • Conduct thorough medical screening exams to determine the acuity of each case.
  • Independently manage lower acuity pediatric patients, providing treatment and disposition from the lobby.
  • Collaborate with attending physicians for higher acuity cases.
  • Place appropriate orders for diagnostics, labs, imaging, and medications.
  • Perform minor procedures.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, ensuring all actions are timely and appropriate.
  • Coordinate patient discharge or transfer, ensuring follow-up care is arranged as necessary.
  • Provide detailed instructions for home care, medications, and any follow-up appointments.
