Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our team. The PA or NP will join a team of 2 Advanced Practice Providers and 3 attending surgeons. The position involves comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and documentation of all cardiothoracic surgery patients in the pre-operative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods, as well as follow-up after discharge to ensure continuity of care in patient management. Responsibilities include rounding in the ICU and on the floor, performing conduit harvesting for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, assisting during cardiac and thoracic cases, and managing office responsibilities such as patient visits and education.

  • Conducts thorough medical histories and performs complete physical examinations.
  • Initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness.
  • Scrutinizes lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions.
  • Performs and interprets common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures.
  • Performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care.
  • May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority.
  • Performs specialized procedures including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies, blood draws, and spinal taps.
  • Provides information and answers routine questions of patients regarding their disease.
  • Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, and related drug side effects.
  • Participates in medical team rounds and collaborates with healthcare team members.
  • Refers patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation.
  • Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the care team.
  • Performs research follow-up studies and assists in data analysis.
  • Participates in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans.
  • Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • May serve as clinical preceptor for PA/APRN students and other health professionals.
  • May serve as Faculty for onboarding new employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • MSN or higher graduate degree in nursing required for APRN.
  • Graduate of an accredited ARPN graduate program.
  • Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program for PA.
  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or applicable state license.
  • Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in applicable state for APRN.
  • National certification as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a nationally accredited organization.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required.
  • Current certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA.
  • Licensed by the State Medical Board of Florida as a PA-C.
  • Must have a Physician Supervision Agreement.
  • 3 years of CT surgery experience preferred.
  • Two years clinical nursing experience preferred for APRN.
  • Two years relative clinical experience preferred for PA.
