About The Position

The Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT) Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with attending physicians, collects and documents data, obtains/orders diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, laboratory studies and professional consultations to provide direct patient care services for HMCT inpatient services.

Requirements

  • Graduate of MSN or DNP accredited Nurse Practitioner Program for NP.
  • Graduate of ARC accredited Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program for PA.
  • Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGACNP, etc.) for NP.
  • PA-C certification for PA.
  • BLS certification for both NP and PA.
  • ACLS preferred for both NP and PA.
  • Must have unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP.
  • Must have unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA.
  • DEA independent license with prescriptive authority for both NP and PA.
  • APP experience is preferred, ideally in Hematology/Oncology, but recent or new grads graduating within by May 2025 are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records.
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
  • Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
  • Perform procedures including Bone Marrow Biopsies, Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy, Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy, Punch skin biopsy with simple suture.
  • See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
  • Attend program required meetings.
  • Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.
