About The Position
The Emergency and Hospitalist Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will deliver primary health care in the Emergency Department setting. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries, as well as the provision of care across the health care continuum. The emphasis is on early detection, treatment, and prevention of diseases, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive and timely care. In this position, the provider will be responsible for obtaining and recording patient histories, completing diagnostic and therapeutic studies, and ensuring thorough and timely charting. The role requires performing physical and medical screening examinations while adhering to legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards. Managing patient flow in the Emergency Department is crucial, as is completing required courses such as HIPAA and EMTALA, along with other continuing medical education (CME) or continuing education units (CEU). The provider will also order diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies, and other therapies as appropriate. Active participation in Emergency Department staff meetings and risk management education is expected. Instructing and counseling patients regarding their mental and physical health, as well as referring them to appropriate specialists or resources, is a key aspect of the role. Establishing diagnostic decision-making and initiating treatment plans, which may include ordering medications and additional therapeutic modalities, is also part of the job. The provider will perform procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician, coordinating patient care with other members of the health care team and initiating consultation requests to other health professionals for comprehensive patient management. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
