Job Summary PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION: The primary role of the Emergency Department Physician Assistant will be to provide direct care management of Emergency Department (ED) patients in collaboration with the ED attending physician(s) and other members of a multidisciplinary ED team. This position is specifically to improve care for patients being evaluated and treated in the ED. DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY: As a Physician Assistant, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. Requirements

  • Physician Assistant certification
  • Massachusetts license
  • ACLS Certificate
  • MCSR (Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration)
  • Proficient Computer Skills (MS Word)
  • EMR experience required
  • Ability to document in electronic health record completely and accurately
  • Knowledge of clinical reminders and how to use them appropriately
  • Good communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Willing and able to work in a team environment
  • Able to change with the ever evolving healthcare field

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and Treat acute and chronic Illness
  • Perform age-appropriate history and physical
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments to patient’s age specific need
  • Monitor the effectiveness of treatments
  • Provide education of acute and chronic medical conditions
  • Managing Chronic Medical Conditions
  • Reconciling medication list
  • Facilitating appointments to specialist
  • Providing thorough exams and evaluations of patient’s health status
  • Facilitate appropriate chronic care management (i.e. Diabetic eye exams, foot exams and nutritional counseling)
  • Preventive Medicine
  • Keeping track of and referring patient to appropriate preventive medical screenings (e.g. Mammograms and Colonoscopies)
  • Counseling and reinforcing patients in healthy life style habits
