About The Position

This position is located at Naval Medical Center San Diego within the Directorate of Medicine (Dermatology). A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Advanced Leave Accrual may be authorized. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. The city of San Diego is described as having one of the top-ten best climates in the United States and one of the two best summer climates, characterized by warm, dry summers and mild winters with low rainfall.

Requirements

  • US Citizens
  • Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
  • Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant which includes performing physical examinations to identify issues related to dermatological conditions; diagnosing dermatological conditions to manage specific skin health concerns; and developing treatment plans specific to dermatology patients.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient evaluations, including physical examinations and medical history reviews, to diagnose a wide range of dermatological conditions.
  • Develops and implements individualized therapeutic plans, which may include prescribing medication, performing minor surgical procedures, and providing patient education on skin health and disease management.
  • Performs a wide range of dermatological procedures independently or in the direction of the supervising physician.
  • Analyzes and interprets a variety of diagnostic tests, such as skin biopsies, cultures, and laboratory results, correlating the findings with the patient's clinical presentation to confirm diagnoses and guide treatment decisions.
  • Manages a diverse patient panel by developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive treatment plans for both acute and chronic dermatological conditions.
  • Formulates alternative treatment plans by interpreting and modifying standard protocols for complex patient presentations.
