The Miami Transplant Institute is the only center in Florida that performs all types of organ transplants including heart, lung, heart-lung, kidney, pancreas, kidney-pancreas, liver, intestinal, and multi-visceral transplants. Since opening in 1970, the Miami Transplant Institute has been dedicated to offering patients the best possible surgical, medical, and rehabilitation care. Miami Transplant Institute has been doing liver transplants for almost 50 years with more than 4,000 livers since 1988. We perform more than 125 liver transplants a year, one of the highest volumes in the country. Most importantly, our programs for both children and adults consistently rank among the nation's best in terms of patient outcomes. The Physician Assistant Cardiothoracic is professional technical work which relieves physicians of many essential and time-consuming tasks. The incumbent interviews patients, takes medical histories, performs physical examinations, orders laboratory tests, makes diagnosis, prescribes appropriate treatment, provides postoperative care and assists during complicated medical procedures. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a physician.
