About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) in Bariatric at Sutter Health is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, planning, and implementing medical care for patients in collaboration with a physician. The PA functions within the full scope of licensure and is accountable for the assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of care, which includes direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The role involves providing medical consultation, performing therapeutic procedures delegated by the supervising physician, assisting with various procedures, and ensuring continuity of care through a multi-disciplinary team approach. The PA may manage patients in various settings including office, hospital, emergency, and perioperative environments, adhering to the State of California Physician Assistant Practice Act.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • PA-Physician Assistant licensure.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification.
  • NCCPA-National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certification required at hire or within 12 months.
  • 2 years of recent relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification for specific departments.
  • Experience with electronic health records such as EPIC.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient care guidelines and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessments including obtaining medical history, reviewing medical records, and conducting physical exams.
  • Provides health care services under the direction of a physician.
  • Examines patients and compiles medical data including health history and physical examination results.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests and interprets results.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans and records progress notes.
  • Instructs and counsels patients on compliance with therapeutic regimens and health maintenance.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections and managing infections.
  • Communicates with patients, physicians, and staff effectively.
  • Documents patient encounter data accurately.
  • Coordinates patient access to community resources for medical and psychosocial management.
  • Identifies and contributes to performance improvement activities.
