About The Position

The primary function of this position is to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. This includes conducting examinations and writing prescriptions. Physician Assistants (PAs) exercise autonomy in medical decision-making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. They may practice in several primary care areas including family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics. The position reports to the Clinic Manager and does not supervise any staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Successful completion of an accredited physician assistant program
  • National certification from the National Commission on Certification of PAs
  • State PA license
  • Current CPR certificate
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Knowledge of medical model and roles of physicians and physician assistants
  • Familiarity with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis
  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques
  • Knowledge of diagnosing and treating medical problems
  • Knowledge of documentation in medical records

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical exams and assess health status
  • Order and interpret tests
  • Prescribe medications and treat illnesses
  • Give injections and suture wounds
  • Consult with physicians as needed
  • Refer complicated medical cases to physicians
  • Monitor therapies and provide continuity of care
  • Triage patient calls and evaluate patient problems
  • Respond to emergencies including use of CPR
  • Counsel patients and families on preventive health care
  • Document patient information and care in medical records
