The Physician provides comprehensive medical care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting, including diagnoses and treatment of patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. The Physician will collaborate with Nurses and other healthcare staff to develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions, and ensure delivery of high-quality patient care. The Physician will also maintain accurate medical records and adhere to all healthcare regulations and facility policies. Below is just a sample of the amazing reasons to consider working for MEDIKO! MEDIKO was founded 28 years ago by the same physician that still owns and operates it today. As a physician you will report clinically to our Chief Medical Officer. Physicians are not scheduled on weekends or any company recognized holidays. A dedicated nurse will assist you when you see patients. Average patient load is between 15-22 a day per 8-hour day. You will have autonomy to refer individuals to a specialist as needed. Our formulary is very generous and allows you to prescribe the appropriate type of medications based solely on your judgment. You will work alongside a skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner. Our comprehensive and practical Nursing Guidelines are used by Nurses when screening individual patients before you see them. The facility is staffed by licensed healthcare professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All behavioral and mental health patients are diagnosed and managed by Licensed Mental Health clinicians and our Psychiatrist. There are protocols for management of new arrivals who may be withdrawing from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or other substances. Designated medical records clerks will obtain offsite medical records. Our EMR system is very user-friendly a dedicated in-house support team will help train and troubleshoot any issues as needed. The headache of dealing with insurance companies is gone! No Prior Authorizations, no Denials, no Appeals, and no collections. Any areas that you may go to see patients is staffed by security and custody personnel, 24/7. Most new arrivals to the detention center will be released or bonded within the first week, before getting an H&P from medical. MEDIKO provides you with training and orientation to correctional medicine by physicians and staff with decades of experience in this field. We provide and pay for your professional liability insurance (including "retro" coverage, formerly known as "tail" coverage). Requirements

A current, valid, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Washington (MD or DO).
Hold a valid DEA Registration, or be willing to obtain DEA Registration and all local permits required to order controlled substances.
2-4 years of clinical practice, and 1-2 years in correctional or underserved setting preferred; clinical rotations count as clinical practice.
Experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, and providing healthcare services in managed care or correctional setting is highly preferred.
Active CPR/BLS certificate required prior to Start Date (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).

Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, evidence-based medical care to incarcerated individuals.
Conduct thorough medical assessments and H&Ps, to diagnose and develop individualized treatment plans for patients.
Prescribe pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions as needed.
Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and evolving health needs.
Work closely with PAs/APRN/ARNP/CRNPs, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated, holistic care for inmates.
Participate in case discussions and treatment plan development, ensuring a collaborative approach to patient care.
Collaborate with Psychiatric/Mental Health staff to provide care to Psychiatric patients, to ensure best outcomes for dual-diagnosis patients.
Respond to and manage medical emergencies, including trauma, psychiatric crises, and other urgent health needs.
Provide leadership in emergency medical responses.
Educate patients on managing chronic conditions, preventing health issues, and understanding treatment plans.
Advocate for inmate health needs and contribute to a supportive environment for all individuals in care.
Document promptly and properly.
Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and clinical outcomes.
Adhere to infection control, safety, and security protocols while maintaining high standards of care within the correctional environment.
Serve as a medical leader, supporting and mentoring other healthcare providers. Assist in identifying opportunities for improvement.
Provide on-call services as needed, including after-hours and weekend care, to ensure continuity of care and address urgent needs.
Work alongside correctional officers and facility leadership to ensure healthcare needs of inmates are met safety and securely.
Uphold the highest ethical standards, ensuring that all practices comply with federal, state, local, and facility regulations.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times and follow all legal and ethical guidelines in healthcare delivery.
