About The Position

The Department of Corrections Health Services Division is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to take on the dynamic role of Physician 3 On-Call for the Monroe Correctional Complex in Monroe, WA, located just northeast of Seattle. The job duties of this position will be performed onsite at the facility. We're looking for Physicians who are passionate about providing team-based, integrated care to patients with complex and challenging health conditions. Our Physicians work in a multi-disciplinary environment treating many people that are disenfranchised from outside medicine with untreated maladies and unusual pathology's. Requirements

  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Washington State
  • Unrestricted DEA license with waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder.
  • Physicians without an active buprenorphine waiver will be considered however continued employment will be contingent upon receipt of waiver within 60 days of hiring date.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers certified within 60 days of hire. Certification must be maintained by the employee as a requirement for continued employment.
  • Experience supervising and/or directing health care delivery operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited School of Medicine AND completion of an ACGME/ABOM accredited residency program.
  • Board certification in an ABMS /ABOM certified specialty with Internal Medicine preferred.
  • Board eligible physicians may be considered with continued employment contingent upon achieving board certification within 24 months of hiring date (unless the incumbent employee was in the position prior to December 31, 2019).
  • Board certification must be maintained by the employee as a requirement for continued employment (unless the incumbent employee was in the position prior to December 31,2019).

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care.
  • Provides clinical care of incarcerated individuals, responding to sick call, reviewing nursing triage, and working closely with the Nursing Team and other clinical staff.
  • Implementation of the plan of care by providing direct patient care, directing others about the urgency, time frames and methods to deliver health care on and off site, determining when needs for care or services become more urgent, need clarification or another type or level of intervention is necessary; taking action as necessary to obtain provider orders and accomplish prescribed interventions in a timely and clinically responsive manner.
  • Practice medicine and provide safe and effective clinical/medical care of patients in the MCC correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law, administrative code, and the WA DOC health plan.
  • Diagnoses of health problems and determination of the outcomes to be achieved. Provides medication as required.
  • Collaboratively works with the Facility Medical Director and HSM3 in planning the delivery of health care, defining timeframes and pathways for delivery of services, prioritizes and sequences to be provided, and ensuring continuity of care over time and place.
  • Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and via computer or other electronic media with patients, their families, other health care personnel, custody and other institutional personnel, and outside stakeholders. Identify problems and solutions. Legible handwriting of documents, clinical findings, the rational and plan for actions taken.
  • Collaboratively assists the Facility Medical Director in establishing therapeutic relationships that preserve professional boundaries with patients and their families to counsel, teach and assist them to reduce health risks, improve their ability to provide self-care, manage symptoms and side effects, to participate in prescribed treatment regimes, and to make informed decisions about health care and treatment.
  • Provides accurate, authoritative information.
  • Establish and defining timeframes and pathways for delivery of services.
  • Provide help with treatment/management of Hepatitis C patients as well as OUD/Suboxone.
  • Provide care in any unit depending on needs, including on-call phone status.
  • Provide clinical consultation and oversight to ARNPs and PAs at MCC.
  • Under the supervision of the FMD, clinically consults and oversees a staff of midlevel providers within a major adult corrections facility in accordance with DOC Policies and DOH RCW's.
  • Serve as a consultant to the Health Services Managers, RN4, and Custody Administration.
  • In conjunction with the FMD, assist in evaluating the clinical performance of all contract medical providers.
  • Provide instruction, teach and mentor medical practitioners.
  • Review and ensure clinician compliance,
  • Consultation and Training.
  • Collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to develop a comprehensive plan to provide continuity of care. Assists in the development of treatment plans for patients with chronic diseases.
  • Participates in the development, review, and revision of Health Services Policies and Procedures and Treatment Protocols.
  • Assists in the development of multi-disciplinary educational programs for staff with the goal of maintaining and updating professional knowledge and competence to provide medical treatment and diagnose disease, injury, and illness.
  • Assists with continuing education and in-service training of health care staff in presenting material on selected topics as required by your supervisor.
  • Assists in the performance evaluations of contract and employed providers, in relation to DOC, DOH, community standards, and MCC/HS goals regarding population health programs.
  • Documentation and Health Services Activities.
  • Maintains accurate, legible and complete records of patient care Including chart documentation using SOAP format of all patient requests for medical attention, objective data collected, treatment administered, evaluation of treatment effectiveness, and patient education provided.
  • Participates in institution safety and sanitation inspections and reports inadequacies to the appropriate authority.
  • Responds to verbal and written requests from the general public, patients and/or patient families, and institution staff with information or advice consistent with statutes and procedures on health care record confidentiality.
  • Investigates and responds to patient grievances, completes unusual incident reports, collects data, investigates and completes reports necessary to the ongoing operation of the Health Services and the institution.
  • Quality Improvement & Other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement Process (CQIP) program, Care Review Committee (CRC), lab processes, death investigations, and etc.
  • Practice in Accordance with DOC Policy and WA DOC Health Plan.
  • Maintains and develops optimal working relationships with contracting hospital and other community health care providers.
  • Provides direct patient care to meet facility requirements.
