Pediatric Physical Therapy Resident for one year starting in the summer of 2026 until the summer of 2027. The one-year residency is at Gillette Children's in St. Paul, Minnesota. Work schedule is five days per week with some weekend rotation. Provides direct and indirect family centered therapy services for patients to increase functional abilities, independence and community integration. Contributes to department, program and service teams to assure achievement of desired outcomes. Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient’s condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams. Compensation & Benefits The hourly wage for this opportunity is $22.30/hour. Hourly pay just one part of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities and Duties Residents will spend the majority of their work day in direct patient care, participating in mentoring, or completing didactic learning. Residents must have the ability to complete these activities and the related indirect patient care including same day documentation while providing safe patient care. Utilizes information, completes accurate and efficient work, displays competence in the technology required for the position, follows policies and procedures, and actively engages in the work of the department. Completes an evaluation utilizing principles of family-centered care. Designs assessment consistent with goals of evaluation, provider order, patient / family input and priorities. Obtains necessary history and background information. Selects evaluation methods, tools, and environment to obtain valid and reliable assessment specific to the patient’s age and developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, cognitive and behavioral status. Administers evaluation consistent with best practices and Gillette competencies. Interprets evaluation for to the patient / family and seeks their assessment of the evaluation’s reliability and validity. Makes recommendations for treatment, referrals, equipment, resources and home and community based activities. Implements a therapy care plan utilizing principles of family-centered care. Designs and implements a therapy care plan including frequency, intensity, duration, and modalities. Coordinates with related services and home and community based resources and referrals and in the context of the patient and family’s needs, preferences and priorities. Identifies desired functional outcomes of the episode of care and goals for initial care plan recertification. Monitors progress toward goals and objectives. Identifies need for modification of goals or intervention program and appropriate discontinuation of intervention. Periodically completes evaluation and assessment to determine if amount and rate of progress is appropriate. Designs home programs that facilitate goal attainment and generalization of new skills to home and community. Uses teach-back method to facilitate carryover of therapy recommendations. Prepares the patient and family for discharge from therapy and indications for follow-up therapy care. Completes necessary administrative and procedural tasks in a timely manner. Monitors the patient and family’s participation in the therapy episode of care and modifies the program appropriately to assure appropriate progress. Completes timely and complete documentation to assure effective communication of the plan to the ordering provider, the patient/family, and payers and to assure continuity of care (Same day documentation – 80%). Completes safety, incident, time-keeping, and customer service documentation same day. Uses time productively in direct and indirect patient care, department contributions and assisting team members as needed. Completes training in essential job competencies. Demonstrates safe and effective use of all new equipment and treatment modalities. Demonstrates efficient and effective use of all new job related software and computer functions. Completes all mandatory training and certifications including but not limited to CPR and Code II, emergency and evacuation, and assigned Gillette training protocols. Completes development and /or revision of one or more competency or policy and procedure.
