About The Position

Provides indirect patient care in the Physical Therapy Department. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. Implements directions from the physicians and physical therapy staff. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Logs all patients in the Physical Therapy logbook. Obtains patient demographic and health insurance information, collects co-pay if applicable. Enters patient information into the computer system. Assembles patient charts; retrieves patient charts if they are a return patient. Schedules outpatient physical therapy appointments; maintains the appointment book. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physical therapists, co-workers and physicians. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs. Orders supplies and printing weekly. Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Interacts professionally with patients and their families and provides explanations and verbal reassurances as necessary. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Notifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain. Answers telephone a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate staff. Prepares statistical reports, types and sends patient progress reports to referring physician. Manages, operates, and sanitizes equipment safely and correctly. Maintains regulatory requirements, nursing and physical therapy department policies and procedures and standards, including infection prevention control, safety regulations and guidelines. Accepts other duties as assigned. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. Professional Requirements: Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat, clean and professional. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time. Wears identification while on duty. Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion. Attends annual review and departmental inservices, as scheduled. Attends 12 staff meetings annually; or reads and returns all staff meeting minutes in a timely manner. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • One (1) year experience in an acute care hospital preferred.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Normal hospital environment. Continuous exposure to biological hazards. Frequent exposure to fumes and odors. Close eye work. Hearing of normal and soft tones. Distinguishing smells. Distinguishing temperatures by touch or proximity. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Carrying up to 40 pounds. Pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds.
