The Staff Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is responsible for administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as established by the staff physical therapist (PT) following the patient’s evaluation. The PTA assists with the restoration of patient functioning following injury, disease or physical disability and to prevent further disability. The PTA assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. PTAs at HMH may treat patients who are hospital acute care in-patients and/or out-patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a professional physical therapist assistant education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) with a current license to practice as a physical therapist assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare Providers (BLSHP) required within first 90 days of employment, if permanent work assignment is not the Southbridge campus.
  • One year experience and/or student affiliations in acute in-patient and/or out-patient services.
