About The Position

Under the direct, on-premise supervision of a licensed physical therapist, provides physical therapy treatment procedures to an assigned inpatient caseload. Contributes to educational and administrative efforts within the department.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Physical Therapy Assistant - Required
  • At least three (3) years PTA experience - Required
  • Physical Therapy Assistant (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
  • Physical Therapy Assistant - Indirect Supervision (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 3 months - Required
  • Interpersonal relationships skills that permit effective communication with parents, children of various ages, peers and supervisors.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year pediatric experience - Preferred
  • Advanced Proficiency Pathways (APP) - American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCIP) - American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) - upon hire - Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers evidence-based clinical care based on primary physical therapist's plan of care, requires mentoring for interventions for complex patient cases.
  • Evaluates the patient's response to intervention and documents patient progress in the chart. Instructs patients and parents in home program, especially gait training and transfer.
  • Informs the physical therapist of progress/problems with specific patients.
  • Performs care coordination tasks associated with patient care, including communication with hospital and community providers, tracking of medical equipment, etc.
  • Begins to develop an area of expertise.
  • Maintains current skills and knowledge by identifying own learning needs, both formally and informally, to practice a lifestyle of life-long learning. Seeks opportunity for clinical growth and development within the department through mentorship.
  • Seeks out opportunities to expand knowledge and treatment interventions related to area of developing expertise.
  • Attends in-services within the department and hospital as appropriate.
  • Is able to mentor PTA I in area of developing specialization.
  • Willing to participate in the supervision and education of PTA students and/or serve as a primary CI to an entry level PTA student.
  • Maintains productivity and fiscal responsibility in the provision/utilization of services.
  • Actively participates in department planning meetings, and/or appropriate department initiatives.
  • Supervises pre-PTA students and volunteers, and aides where appropriate.
