About The Position

The Physical Therapist Assistant assists the physical therapist in the treatment of patients by implementing established treatment plans, progressing patients through therapeutic plans, and documenting treatments under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. Responsibilities include collaborating with the PT to determine treatment methods, instructing family members, and maintaining communication with the treatment team. The role also involves participating in non-patient care activities, attending staff meetings, and maintaining competence through continuing education. The assistant is responsible for monthly meetings with a mentoring PT to discuss case studies for professional development.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associate’s Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
  • Michigan licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant is required.
  • BLS Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physical therapist in treatment of patients by implementing established treatment plans.
  • Progress patients through therapeutic plans.
  • Communicate with internal and external contacts regarding treatment.
  • Document treatments under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
  • Collaborate with the PT in determining treatment methods and media.
  • Assist with re-evaluating and updating treatment plans.
  • Instruct and train family or significant others.
  • Meet productivity standards.
  • Submit charges for services provided.
  • Maintain communication with the treatment team for goal setting and problem-solving.
  • Communicate observations of patient’s conditions and reactions to treatment.
  • Participate in non-patient care activities including educational events and community outreach.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Maintain and improve competence through self-study and continuing education programs.
  • Assist in determining equipment and supply needs.
  • Provide documentation of meetings according to department compliance guidelines.
