Under the direction of a physical therapist, the physical therapy assistant (PTA) is responsible for providing treatment and rehabilitative services to patients to help improve mobility and relieve pain and disability who have experienced injury or a disabling disease(s). Some of the techniques that the PTA will use for treating a patient include massages, electrical stimulation, paraffin baths, hot and cold packs, traction, ultrasound, and assigned exercises. The PTA will provide skilled physical therapy services/interventions in accordance with physician orders and under the supervision of a Registered or Licensed Physical Therapist/PT. The PTA will implement and modify the patient's physical therapy plan of treatment under the supervision of a Registered or Licensed Physical Therapist/PT and effectively collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to meet patients' goals.
