About The Position

The physical therapist performs student assessment, intervention, and transition planning, and promotes an exemplary education program fostering student achievement as outlined under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Exceptional Children’s Education Act (ECEA). The physical therapist develops and promotes collaborative relationships among the school community: parents, staff, administration, community agencies, private medical providers, and other community members.

Requirements

  • Masters or Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree
  • Strong oral and written communication, organization, collaboration, and planning skills.
  • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment and computer software systems.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire
  • Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Physical Therapy license
  • Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Services Provider license
  • Willing to obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid program) account and provide NPI and Health First Colorado account information to the Office of Human Resources and the District Medicaid office
  • Colorado driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation within the school environment. Use the Physical Therapy Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making while using evidence-based resources and clinical reasoning to make practice decisions.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop a comprehensive educational plan.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards and state and district guidelines.
  • Evaluates the student’s functional abilities through a variety of methods including histories, interviews, standardized assessments, skilled observation, and checklists.
  • Synthesizes evaluation results to understand strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment and to help direct program development and guide evidence-based intervention.
  • Provides supervision of Physical Therapy Assistants in accordance with Colorado Physical Therapy Practice Act and district guidelines.
  • Educates student, staff, and family to facilitate skill development and practice as well as maintain health and safety.
  • Adapts and modifies the environment, including use of assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and training instructional staff, to meet individual needs and promote student independence.
  • Monitors the effects of physical therapy intervention and the need to continue, modify, or discontinue intervention.
  • Assists in managing inventory of therapeutic equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
