About The Position

Founded in 1973, Dignity Health - Methodist Hospital is a 158-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Sacramento, California. Serving over 80,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including a Level II NICU, heart care, cancer care, women’s health, and neurology. The incumbent demonstrates competency in physical therapy for pediatric, adult, and/or geriatric patients. The incumbent provides patient assessments, develops and implements individual patient treatment programs, provides therapeutic interventions utilizing current and effective methodologies, and maintains effective documentation. As our Physical Therapist, you will help patients rebuild or maintain their physical wellbeing so they can function at their best level, reduce pain, and improve their quality of life. Every day you will perform initial evaluations, develop and update individualized plans of care, and provide a variety of direct treatments. You will be expected to consistently meet patient care productivity standards, collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and families, and promote a positive customer service environment. To be successful in this role, you must possess strong age-appropriate competency skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative, patient-centered approach to care.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency in physical therapy for pediatric, adult, and/or geriatric patients
  • Provides patient assessments
  • Develops and implements individual patient treatment programs

  • Thoroughly complete all relevant areas in evaluations
  • Set appropriate goals relative to the patient's prior level of function
  • Ensure treatment plan is relevant to patient's problems identified
  • Ensure patient/family participates in treatment plan and in setting goals
  • Implement effective and adequate treatment following department guidelines
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of treatment effectiveness
  • Modify goals and treatment as appropriate in relation to working toward goals
  • Select appropriate treatment interventions
  • Utilize specialized techniques
  • Address patient safety with follow up recommendation
  • Recommend/obtain equipment as appropriate
  • Provide treatment for multiple diagnoses and levels of care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan of the patient
  • Interpret knowledge needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs
  • Address patient/family education 95-98% of the time
  • Demonstrate a variety of teaching methods
  • Ensure teaching methods are appropriate to the level of understanding
  • Initiate education timely (initiated when patient/family capable of learning) and when need is identified with action taken to initiate training
  • Ensure content of education is comprehensive, covering all aspects of care including safety
  • Document patient/family performance
  • Indicate/document need for type and follow up
  • Comply with department policy regarding documentation
  • Complete documentation in a timely manner according to department policy
  • Ensure documentation is concise, legible, uses correct grammar, medical terminology and approved abbreviations
  • Ensure documentation reflects all interventions used in treatment, all ongoing assessment of treatment effectiveness, and changes in goals and treatment plan as appropriate
  • Address IOP indicators per policy
  • Ensure documentation reflects interdisciplinary teamwork and collaboration
  • Complete timecards, productivity logs, billing, and other logs for departmental functions in a timely manner per department policy
  • Appropriately communicate treatment plan and patient status with team and MD with no more than one complaint per year
  • Participate in team conferences
  • Address verification of payor guidelines/authorization as needed, in a timely manner (i.e., prior to scheduling/treating patient or obtaining equipment)
  • Attempt to contact MD with patient concerns or changes in status in a timely manner
  • Solicit feedback from MD and coworkers to improve teamwork and collaboration (or uses unsolicited feedback) with no more than one valid complaint per year and no more than two complaints of the same nature per year
