About The Position

When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives. The staff member performs skilled patient evaluations and treatments. The staff member plans, organizes and implements physical therapy programs on patients based on evaluative findings. The scope of patient care includes neurological, geriatric, general orthopedic, general acute medical and surgical, sports medicine and industrial patients with diverse cultural backgrounds and of varied age groups Outpatient (school age children: 6-12 years; adolescent: 13-17 years; adults: 18-65 years; geriatrics: 65 years and older) Inpatient (adults: 18-65 years; geriatrics: 65 years and older) The staff member demonstrates the ability to effectively collaborate with the interdisciplinary health team in providing patient care services. The staff member may work in the inpatient and/or the outpatient setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited BS, MS, or DPT program in Physical Therapy.
  • Current licensure by the Division of Registration of Allied Health Professionals in MA as confirmed by primary source verification or eligible as outlined below:
  • Acceptable: Massachusetts Physical Therapy License.
  • Eligible According to MGL c. 112, § 23C, a PT who is waiting to take their licensure exam is eligible to work under direction of a licensed PT.
  • Candidates practicing under the direction of a licensed Massachusetts physical therapist must sign their documentation by designating their authorizing academic credential (e.g., DPT or MSPT).
  • The regulation requires licensed physical therapists to co-sign the candidate’s documentation.
  • New graduates, who have submitted a complete and accepted application for licensure, and out of state licensed physical therapists are expected to obtain Massachusetts license within 3-6 months of hire date.
  • Will need to work under the direct clinical supervision by a licensed physical therapist and have all notes cosigned until license has been obtained.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Clearly and concisely documents all appropriate information in a neat and timely manner.
  • Retains responsibility for tracking patients' insurances as it pertains to outpatient referral and authorization and inpatient admission status.
  • Provides accurate comprehensive documentation in a timely manner to ensure uninterrupted PT services as appropriate.
  • Accurately completes insurance certifications and recertification's in a timely manner.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with patients (of varied age groups and cultural diversities), family members/support persons, Physicians/Non-Physician Providers (NPP), supervisors, and staff members regarding patient treatment and department functioning both verbally and in writing.
  • Adheres to cancellation/participation policy.
  • Explains policy to patients, family members/support persons and Physicians/NPP in a diplomatic manner.
  • Consistently meets productivity standards.
  • Completes productivity data as requested.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages of the patients served (Evaluation, Provide intervention unique to that population, Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a range of treatment).
  • Upon referral from a physician/NPP, performs thorough and objective evaluation on all patients using professionally accepted techniques.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish pertinent functional short and long-term goals based on the evaluative findings.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish realistic time frames (duration, estimated lengths of stay) to meet those goals.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish an effective treatment plan to meet the stated goals.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish a realistic frequency of treatment.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize when a treatment program needs to be revised and/or modified to meet the stated goals and follows through.
  • Reevaluates patients as needed and per department policy.
  • Demonstrates ability to instruct patients and their family/support persons.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess the effectiveness of the education, identifies need for modification and follows through.
  • Administers all evaluations, treatments and modalities in a safe manner according to department policies and procedures, which are based upon knowledge of indications and contraindications for treatment.
  • Demonstrates safe work habits.
  • Utilizes appropriate safe patient/material handling equipment and body mechanics at all times.
  • Provides adequate training and supervision to support personnel.
  • Establishes appropriate priorities in carrying out patient caseload.
  • Delegates aspects of patient care to support appropriate support personnel.
  • Assists Director of Rehab Services in completing performance appraisals on support personnel.
  • Functions as clinical instructor for PT / PTA affiliating students.
  • Promptly informs supervisor of observable hazards in the work area and takes appropriate action.
  • Documents and addresses equipment problems per Hospital policy.
  • 100% of the time meets or exceeds productivity standards for the assigned rotation.
  • Accurately completes time sheets each day.
  • Accurately bills for daily treatment and submits bills in a timely manner.
  • Accurately bills for medical supplies and submits bills in a timely manner.
  • Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.
  • Participates in appropriate hospital and department in-service and education programs.
  • Maintains current education and awareness of technical and professional changes associated with Rehabilitation Services.
  • Seeks to develop new skills and credentials.
  • Offers suggestions on in-service topics to improve and augment skills and knowledge of the staff.
  • Attends seminars/participates in educational opportunities to improve and augment skills and knowledge.
  • Staff member meets with supervisor on a regular basis to discuss feedback evaluations.
  • Able to establish yearly goals and continually work to meet goals.
  • Presents to peers formally and informally during year.
  • Identifies need for change in policies and procedures, staffing and equipment and notifies supervisor.
  • Identifies need for new programs and discusses with supervisor.
  • Obtains and compiles data from peer review.
  • Assists in identifying appropriate indicators for the department's Quality Management / Performance Improvement Program.
  • Initiates corrective action when problems are identified.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • May be required to perform similar or related duties reflective of the level of experience as may be necessary on an emergency, temporary or limited basis.
  • All job functions are subject to change at the discretion of the Hospital Administration.
  • Understand and follow universal precautions for infection control.
