Requirements

  • Education: Master's or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Licensure: Valid Indiana state licensure to practice physical therapy.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with school-age children (K-12), preferably in a special education setting.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation and Assessment: Perform evaluations on students to identify gross motor and functional limitations that impede educational performance. This includes conducting assessments for genetic, developmental, neurological, and orthopedic disorders, using standardized tests.
  • IEP Development & Implementation: Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) or Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to establish goals, benchmarks, and treatment plans.
  • Direct Therapy & Consultation: Deliver direct, hands-on therapy sessions focused on range of motion, strength, postural control, balance, and functional mobility. Provide consultative services to staff and families to promote inclusion and assist in the classroom.
  • Adaptive Equipment: Identify, order, and adapt equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, standers) to ensure student safety and access.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate, timely documentation of therapy services to comply with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work with teachers, parents, medical personnel, and other professionals, such as Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs), to implement comprehensive care.
