A PT SNF unit provides short-term, inpatient rehab for patients who no longer need hospital care but still require daily skilled nursing and therapy. The goal is to restore strength, mobility, and independence so patients can safely return home or to a less intensive setting. These units are staffed by an interdisciplinary team and care plans are physician-supervised. Typical patients are recovering from stroke, joint replacement, fractures, cardiac issues, or general deconditioning. Physical therapists assess mobility, design treatment plans, provide strengthening, balance, gait training, and pain management, and teach safe use of assistive devices. They also help plan discharge and home safety needs. Stays usually last 2–4 weeks, therapy averages 1–2 hours a day, and coverage is often partially provided by Medicare Part A when criteria are met.
