About The Position

The position is for a Physical Therapist (PT) at Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, VA, working PRN (as needed) with a requirement of two weekend days per month plus at least one holiday per year. The working hours are from 7AM to 3PM, and the position offers a flat rate. The incumbent will be responsible for providing a full range of physical therapy services including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions in a team environment consistent with the position’s qualifications, professional practices, and ethical standards. The role also involves accountability for performance improvement activities, problem-solving, and productivity.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Doctor of Physical Therapy program, qualified Master’s degree program, or four year Bachelor’s degree program approved by the APTA (or foreign equivalent).
  • Hold an applicable and current state license or certification to practice or meet all qualifications to be eligible for traineeship.
  • Current BLS certification required or obtained within ninety days of completing new employee orientation.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior acute care experience highly preferred.
  • Experience working with adult and geriatric populations is desirable.
  • Experience working in the acute care setting is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide age appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Evaluate patient response to treatment.
  • Document the course of patient care in the electronic medical record including progress made and continuing need for treatment.
  • Provide patient and family education on tasks and resources that support continued functional independence and document same in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in discharge planning as part of the interdisciplinary team.
