About The Position

The Physical Therapist (PT) Acute Care and Emergency Department position at Advocate Sherman Hospital involves providing care in both the acute care setting and the emergency department. The role requires working two evenings a week until 7:30 p.m. and a minimum of one of the six major holidays annually. Candidates should have a solid history of working in acute care, with prior experience in the emergency department being highly desired but not mandatory. The position includes responsibilities such as interpreting physician referrals, establishing treatment plans, monitoring patient outcomes, and ensuring proper documentation. The role also involves cleaning up after patient treatment and maintaining a neat work area. A $5000 sign-on bonus is offered, payable in two installments.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school.
  • Licensed Physical Therapist in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in the emergency department.
  • Experience with EPIC EMR.
  • Solid background in vestibular rehab and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets physician referrals and completes evaluations.
  • Establishes and implements individual treatment plans based on evaluations.
  • Monitors and evaluates treatment outcomes and adjusts plans as necessary.
  • Plans for and completes patient discharge, including providing home programs and referrals.
  • Communicates and collaborates with stakeholders for optimal patient care.
  • Completes required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards.
  • Maintains productivity standards and adheres to billing and documentation policies.
  • Cleans up after patient treatment and keeps the area orderly.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Manages assigned caseload and informs leadership of coverage needs.
  • Pursues professional growth through continuing education and departmental in-services.
  • May supervise physical therapy assistants and students.
