About The Position

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, aids patients to correct and/or adjust to disabilities by selecting, adapting and using appropriate physical therapy procedures, following physician's orders, or operating independently under New York State direct access statute. While practicing during these 90 days, this position must be under the supervision of a currently licensed New York State registered physical therapist. As soon as the permit is received, this position must give the manager the employer's copy. Staff can only remain in this pending licensure classification for up to 90 days following graduation per NYS regulations at which time, staff must have obtained and be working on a temporary license.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy required
  • Completed relevant clinical education in a comparable setting required
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Basic foundational knowledge of Physical Therapy Practice required
  • Has attained a NYS temporary license and is eligible for licensure in NYS required

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or Doctoral degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates the patients' functional abilities and disabilities by tests, observations and information provided by family members, physician, nursing staff and others.
  • Plans a program of patient treatment related to diagnosis, prognosis, emotional needs or problems, patient's environment, etc. working from physician's order.
  • Instructs and counsel patients and family in the use of equipment and techniques.
  • Evaluates home facilities and suggests need adaptations and resources in preparation for patient discharge.
  • Recommends, obtains and instructs on the use of adaptive and assistive devices.
  • Ensures appropriate safety practices and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains required patient and department records.
  • Determines types and frequencies of therapies.
  • Provides treatments using a variety of procedures and therapies.
  • Recommends modifications of program as needed to physician.
  • Keeps abreast of issues and changes in the field by reading and attending professional meetings and seminars.
  • Other duties as assigned
