As a Physical Therapist, you will utilize various exercises to help patients increase strength, range of motion, endurance and coordination. Because this position requires close interaction, you have the opportunity to build strong relationships with both patients and their families. Often, your patients are dealing with pain, so sensitivity is important. Ultimately, your unconditional support and reassurance can drive them to work hard and regain their health. This position is designed to provide coverage across multiple clinic locations, supporting staffing needs during PTO and FMLA absences. In doing so, it helps ensure uninterrupted patient access and continuity of care for the therapists and the communities they serve. Flexibility is essential for success in this role. The individual will regularly travel between locations and must be comfortable adapting to different teams, environments, and patient populations. This is a dynamic, float-style position requiring a high degree of adaptability and a willingness to move from site to site based on operational needs. A caregiver in this position works 7:00am-7:00pm Mon-Thurs and 7:00am-5:00pm on Friday| 2 evenings per week until 7:00pm required| Based at the Lakewood YMCA, with coverage across West Region sites as needed, including YMCA locations, Lutheran Hospital, Amherst, Westlake, Avon Wellness, and other clinics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or certificate
  • Graduate of a Physical Therapy Program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association
  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling.
  • Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.
  • Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.
  • Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.
  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.
  • Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and on-going assessments of patient condition.
  • Establish, revise and evaluate a plan of care appropriate to problems identified and involve the patient/family according to their capabilities and desires.
  • Perform therapy interventions utilizing standard physical therapy techniques and skills as appropriate for the age and condition of the patient.
  • Supervise activities of Physical Therapy Assistants, students and other support personnel.
