About The Position

The position involves the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal, vascular, and neurological diagnoses, with a focus on patient-specific treatment. The role includes providing education and preventative care to patients, their families, hospital associates, and the community. The individual will act as a liaison between patients and their families, physicians, nursing staff, and social services, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery, education, and coordination of physical therapy services.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy School or Program accredited by relevant associations.
  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Active participation in the AP/OTA at local, state, and national levels as required by the department director.

Responsibilities

  • Use common sense and special clinical skills to care for the sick or handicapped with regard to the patient's age and diagnosis.
  • Provide high quality patient treatment, including evaluation, treatment planning and implementation, patient/family education and instruction, provision of safety procedures, and communication with relevant parties.
  • Operate equipment related to patient care, such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation units, mechanical traction, exercise equipment, and wound care equipment.
  • Direct patients in the care and use of assistive devices, braces, orthotics, prosthetics, exercise equipment, and orthopedic devices.
  • Aid patients in mobility and strengthening exercises, muscle reeducation, gait training, and activities of daily living training.
  • Adapt physiotherapeutic techniques for patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or carry out therapeutic exercises.
  • Document patient care following HFAP and departmental policy and procedure requirements.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes related to patient care, including evaluation and peer review.
  • Communicate effectively with intra- and interdepartmental associates regarding patient care and customer relations.
  • Direct and supervise activities of aides, students, and volunteers.
  • Assist with departmental functions as deemed necessary by the Director of Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy.
  • Participate in providing educational material to departmental staff and continue self-education in relevant areas.
