Requirements

  • Physical Therapists are required to have at least a Masters degree and obtain state licensing in order to practice as a physical therapist.
  • Graduation from an accredited program of physical therapy is required to apply for licensure (MS or DPT, PT from accredited program of physical therapy).
  • Orthotic/Prosthetic Training a plus.
  • ACLS/AED preferred; BLS-CPR required.
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver's license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the physical therapy section as a member of the clinic team.
  • Provide therapy to new patients primarily as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate directly with the patient's treating team members such as physicians, clinicians (CP, CPO's), nurses, social workers, psychologist and others involved with the patients' care.
  • Advise, teach, and mentor staff regarding patients' care and progress.
  • Assist with discharge planning and provision of appropriate follow-up.
  • Serve as a consultant for other health care providers regarding the delivery of rehabilitation of injuries, disease and amputee care.
  • Knowledge of wound care, skin disorders associated with use of a prosthetic limb, edema management, contracture prevention and treatment, proper donning/doffing technique and pain issues commonly found in amputee patients.
  • Represent physical therapy in policy and procedure development, the development of QA monitors and the development of standards of care to ensure compliance with accrediting and professional organizations relating to care of amputees and patients at risk of limb loss.
