About The Position

Flexstaff is hiring a Temporary Physical Therapist to join our client's team. The assignment will provide physical therapy services to students with severe physical disabilities and multiple medical conditions in a school-based setting. The PT supports students’ participation in educational programs by addressing mobility, positioning, gross motor skills, and accessibility needs in alignment with Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. The assignment will be for 4 – 6 months, with working hours from Monday through Friday (8:30 am - 2:30 pm) in Albertson, NY.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in physical therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current New York State license and registration with the State Education Department.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with severe physical disabilities, preferably in a school-based or pediatric setting.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and mobility support.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations for students as part of the IEP process.
  • Develop and implement individualized physical therapy goals and treatment plans that support students’ academic access, functional mobility, and independence.
  • Provide direct and consultative physical therapy services in classroom, therapy, and community settings within the school environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, school nurses, and other staff to ensure a coordinated approach to each student’s education and care.
  • Train and guide staff and families on safe handling, transfers, positioning, mobility devices, and adaptive equipment.
  • Assist in assessing and recommending specialized equipment, seating, orthotics, and adaptive technology to enhance students’ functional abilities.
  • Document services, progress notes, and reports in compliance with school, district, and state regulations.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, interdisciplinary team conferences, and staff development activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of current best practices and innovations in pediatric/school-based physical therapy.
