About The Position

The Physical Therapist I position is at Dignity Health - French Hospital Medical Center, a 112-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital established in 1946 and located in San Luis Obispo, California. The hospital serves over 150,000 patients annually, offering a range of services including heart care, orthopedics, and a family birthing center. French Hospital Medical Center is recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, is a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center, and has consistently achieved an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group since 2012. In this role, the Physical Therapist will be responsible for helping patients regain or maintain their physical wellbeing, aiming to optimize their function, alleviate pain, and enhance their overall quality of life.

Requirements

  • Physical Therapist license in California (CA) upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support - CPR certification upon hire.
  • Strong age-appropriate competency skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • A collaborative, patient-centered approach to care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial evaluations.
  • Develop and update individualized plans of care.
  • Provide a variety of direct treatments.
  • Consistently meet patient care productivity standards.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and families.
  • Promote a positive customer service environment.
  • Identify and report patient abuse and neglect, including physical assault, domestic abuse, and neglect of elders and children.
  • Accurately identify patient's functional deficits/dysfunction through review of the medical record, observation of the patient, information from the patient/family, manual muscle testing, range of motion testing, postural analysis, functional analysis, and other physical therapy assessment techniques.
  • Accurately interpret the physician's order.
  • Effectively communicate regularly with other members of the healthcare team regarding goals, progress, and rehabilitation potential.
  • Work as a collaborative member of the treatment team.
  • Attend any necessary and appropriate patient care meetings, such as mini rounds, weekly patient care conference, and weekly NICU discharge meetings.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and developments in Rehabilitation through participation and attendance of inservices, continuing education courses, and current professional publications.
  • Terminate treatment appropriately when the patient has met goals, shows a plateau of progress, or is no longer authorized for treatment.
  • Plan for the patient's discharge in adequate time for appropriate referrals to be made.
  • Make appropriate recommendations for referrals at the next level of care, including outpatient therapy, home health, and MTU.
  • Consistently and accurately document care of the patient on the day care is delivered, using both hospital and department policies and in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Use clear, concise, and objective data in documentation.
