About The Position

Matheny Medical and Educational Center has a career opportunity available for a Full Time Physical Therapist for our Hospital. Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Matheny's mission is to provide exceptional care and an optimal quality of life for children and adults with special needs and medically complex developmental disabilities. Founded by Walter and Marquerite Matheny in 1951, the Matheny of today is a pioneer in providing fully integrated, personalized care and education that respects each person's dignity and encourages their highest potential. At Matheny, we focus on abilities in a warm and nurturing environment. Our fully-accredited non-profit private school combines traditional academics with therapeutic intervention and pre-vocational skill development. Our Adult Services Program includes five licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers. Staffed by experienced therapists and instructors, the program supports adult patients as they attain their highest level of functioning and integration into the community. Matheny's Arts Access program empowers individuals with disabilities to create art without boundaries. Through the use of innovative communication systems, the artists have complete freedom to explore a world that is defined only by their unlimited creativity and unique self-expression.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience required.
  • New Jersey Physical Therapy License required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts accurate and thorough client/student examinations in the hospital or education environment using departmental format.
  • Identifies Physical Therapy Diagnosis and Prognosis to direct appropriate plan of care for each client/student.
  • Implements effective Procedural (Direct) Interventions for each client/student based on the results of the assessment process.
  • Provides coordination, communication and documentation to support the client/students functional outcome(s) and program needs.
  • Performs client/student related instruction to support the client/students functional outcome(s) and program needs.
  • Provides consultative services within the organization and/or to outside agencies regarding environmental and/or service provision issues.
  • Participates in educational programs intended to enhance the knowledge, skills and competencies of others.
  • Performs transdisciplinary roles to optimize client/students carryover of functional outcome(s) and program needs.
  • Participates in department duties and responsibilities necessary to provide effective and efficient services.
  • Participates in training and studies to enhance knowledge base in the specialty practice of Pediatrics and Developmental Disabilities.
