About The Position

The George Washington University Hospital’s Medical-Surgical Rehabilitation Department is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist to join our acute care rehab team full-time in order to support the therapy needs of patients in the Emergency Department. GW Hospital is a 385 bed Level 1 Trauma Center, Academic Medical Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center located in the heart of Washington, DC. GW offers clinical expertise and world-class care in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neuroscience, critical care, trauma, women’s health, organ and tissue transplant, and advanced surgical techniques. Our medical-surgical rehabilitation professionals work in every area of the hospital providing consultation, evaluation, treatment, and education services to patients, families, and other caregivers in order to improve patient function, outcomes, and discharge. POSITION SUMMARY The ED Physical Therapy Clinical Specialist will be responsible for performing evaluations and making recommendations for patients presenting with musculoskeletal, neurological, or medically complex conditions in the Emergency Department. ED Physical Therapy Clinical Specialist will independently diagnose and manage conditions within the PT scope of practice, make recommendations for care and follow up, make additional referrals as necessary, and facilitate safe discharge planning to reduce unnecessary admissions The ED Physical Therapist serves as a member of the rehab leadership team and is responsible for programmatic and quality improvement initiatives in the ED aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, throughput, and interdisciplinary collaboration, collaborating with ED and Hospital Lead and may be responsible for the supervision and oversight of junior clinicians, ensuring their mentorship, development, and compliance with departmental guidelines The ED Physical Therapy Clinical Specialist will collaborate with leadership on patient care dashboards and other areas of data analysis and performance improvement for outcome maximization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy required, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) preferred
  • 5 year’s clinical experience required, with experience in both acute care and outpatient physical therapy preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) preferred
