About The Position

The Physical Therapist Assistant restores function, alleviates pain, and prevents disability by administering medically prescribed Physical Therapy under the direction of a Physical Therapist. The role involves implementing treatments according to goals established by a Physical Therapist and physician prescriptions, collaborating with the Physical Therapist to determine the need for assistive devices, and administering various physical therapy treatments. The assistant monitors patient responses to treatments, contributes to discharge planning, documents patient care services, and maintains a safe and clean working environment. Additionally, the assistant ensures the operation of equipment, maintains professional knowledge, manages supply inventory, and contributes to team efforts and the development of the organization.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a Physical Therapist Assistant program required.
  • Physical Therapist Assistant license required.
  • Basic Life Support / CPR certification as a healthcare provider per the American Heart Association required.
  • Previous clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement treatments according to goals established by a Physical Therapist and physician prescriptions.
  • Collaborate with the Physical Therapist in determining the need for assistive devices and other DME needs.
  • Administer therapeutic modalities, perform therapeutic exercises, neuromuscular re-education, and functional activities.
  • Train patients in the use of assistive devices, orthotics, and prosthesis.
  • Document patient's progress and recommend modifications in treatment plans.
  • Instruct patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs and provide training in functional skills.
  • Chart in patient and department records according to established guidelines and charge patients appropriately for services rendered.
  • Respect patient rights and provide emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual support while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Comply with procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Interpret and implement policies to prevent the spread of diseases and adhere to infection-control protocols.
  • Complete preventative maintenance on equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and call for repairs as needed.
  • Attend educational workshops, review publications, and document education on associate education records.
  • Check stock to determine inventory levels, place orders for supplies, and verify receipt of supplies.
  • Contribute to team efforts by maintaining department productivity standards and coordinating student programs.
  • Volunteer as a representative of Good Shepherd at community events and communicate performance outcomes.
