About The Position

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) is responsible for administering Physical Therapy treatments as supervised and directed by the staff Physical Therapist. Treatments provided are to restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, prevent/limit physical disabilities and/or increase independence to improve patients' overall functioning within their environment.

Requirements

  • Current Professional Licensure Required
  • Current IL Physical Therapist Assistant License Required
  • Valid Driver's license and proof of personal auto insurance Required
  • BLS Required
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Nice To Haves

  • Physical Therapy Assistant minimum 1 year Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides treatment as directed by the staff Physical Therapist; adheres to standards of physical medicine practice; demonstrates competence in following directions and treatment plans of the responsible staff therapist in the course of providing physical therapy to patients.
  • Observes and reviews treatment effect, discusses observations with staff Physical Therapist; demonstrates the ability to apply accurate therapeutic principles and practices; uses appropriate technical knowledge and clinical judgment in observing patient's reactions to treatments; reports adjustments needed to assigned physical therapist.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to treat patients with physical therapy modalities (ex. Ultrasound, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, etc.), skilled therapy techniques (ex. Manual muscle testing, joint ROM measurements, etc.); able to instruct patients on use of adaptive/assistive equipment.
  • Provides patient/caregivers with effective home programs designed to meet the specific needs of each individual patient.
  • Maintains open communication with members of the Rehab Team and consults other departments as appropriate to work collaboratively toward positive clinical outcomes.
  • Ensures that patient charges and documentation are accurate, entered on a timely basis and in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provides information related to the departmental budget in relationship to Physical Therapy needs for optimum patient care and service.
  • Documentation is timely, efficient and meets current standards and policies; demonstrates thorough knowledge of computerized documentation including: evaluations, progress notes, monthly notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
