About The Position

Responsible for administering physical therapy modalities of treatments as supervised by staff physical therapist. Administers treatments and physical agents as directed by the staff physical therapist, after the physical therapist has evaluated the patient and has established a plan of care. The PTA assist with restoration of patient's functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of function, while learning to live with the limits of their capabilities. The PTA participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in PIC activities. Ensures that patient clinical documentation and charges are accurate following hospital policy and procedures and practice act by laws. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training and preventative maintenance, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant program , approved through the board of Physical Therapy, Agency for Healthcare Administration and State of Florida
  • Knowledge of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, physical therapy equipment use/maintenance, medical equipment, anatomy and physiology
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and strong written and verbal skills
  • Software/Hardware: Computer knowledge/ Electronic Medical Record Documentation
  • License/Certification: Florida State Physical Therapy Assistant License
  • Other: Current BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience (Type & Length): Preferred one year of acute care experience with adults, geriatrics, orthopedics and knowledge of modalities applications.

Responsibilities

  • Completes daily progress notes in electronic medical record following hospital policy and procedures, Medicare guidelines, and professional physical therapy by laws.
  • Performs follow up treatments, assessments of dysfunction, communicate progression of goals with physical therapist, and collaborates with physical therapist in updating discharge disposition recommendation in accordance with practitioner's orders and standards of practice.
  • All follow up treatments shall be in accordance with a current written plan of care as established by the evaluating physical therapist. The plan shall state the diagnosis, and a problem list when appropriate, pertinent to the rehabilitation process, precautions necessitated by the patients' general medical condition of factor, the short term and long-term goals of the treatment program and require the frequent review and reassessment of the patient progress.
  • The PTA will ensure timely communication with physical therapist regarding the frequency and duration of the physical therapy services as established in initial evaluation, short term goals, and long-term goals, anticipated discharge needs, re-assessment intervals which are in accordance with national standards of practice as established by professional organizations but not limited to APTA.
  • Follow up with plan of care with goals that are functional, and measurable that indicate the predicted level of improvement in function with the duration and frequency of visit to achieve the goals.
  • PTA interventions will be in accordance with goals established, which will be measurable by re-evaluation related to the impairment, activity limitation, and participation restrict.
