About The Position
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) work as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist. PTA’s implement selected components of patient/client interventions (treatment), obtain data related to the interventions provided and make modifications in selected interventions either to progress the patient/client as directed by the Physical Therapist or to ensure patient/client safety and comfort. PTA’s assist the Physical Therapist in the treatment of individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.
Requirements
- Associates Degree by an CAPTE-accredited program.
- State license or certification to practice and any additional requirements by the state
Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Read and interpret medical records and instrument panels.
- Apply therapeutic modalities such as ice, heat, and electrical stimulation.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatment.
- Adjust assistive devices.
- Make visual observations regarding posture and functional abilities.
- Communicate with patients and healthcare team members.
- Monitor patients by hearing instrument signals and alarms.
- Assess patient status and maintain a safe practice environment.
- Palpate pathologic changes in soft tissue.
- Operate equipment controls and perform manual treatment/assessment techniques.
- Transport, move, or lift patients requiring all levels of assistance.
- Stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, reach, push, and pull for prolonged periods.
- Ensure patient safety and exercise independent judgment.
- Document patient progress and status in the medical record.
- Lead by example and exhibit solid leadership and teamwork.
- Promote the core philosophy of FYZICAL.
