Department DH PHYSICAL THERAPY MAIN CAMPUS INPATIENT Job Summary The Physical Therapist Assistant, under direct supervision, assist physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures. May, in accordance with state laws, assist in the development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, document the progress of treatment, and modify specific treatments in accordance with patient status and within the scope of treatment plans established by a physical therapist. Essential Functions: Patient Care Assists Physical Therapists in performing rehabilitative treatment procedures and techniques. Monitors patient's response to treatment is closely monitored and assessed. Assist patients to dress, undress, or put on and remove supportive devices, such as braces, splints, or slings. Recommended hanges and upgrades are communicated to the primary therapist. (50%) Pre Treatment Collaborates with appropriate parties to coordinate patient treatment authorization. Receives authorization prior to treatment and treatment will commence as outlined by the insurance carrier. (15%) Documentation Complete patient care documentation recording the prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart. Update medical records according to prescribed departmental standards. Complete appropriate data bases, problem lists, treatment goals and individualized plan of care. Completes patient charges per department guidelines. (15%) Discharge Discharges patient from physical therapy, provide home-care instructions, provide referrals (10%) Equipment Maintenance Monitor operation of equipment and record use of equipment and administration of treatment. (5%) Education May assist in orientating and training new employees, PT-student, hospital staff, and precepts new employees during orientation. Trains and educates patients, family members and care-givers in therapy principles, methods and techniques in order to achieve intended outcomes.
