About The Position

The Clinical Educator Coordinator is a physical therapist and faculty member with an understanding of contemporary physical therapist practice, quality clinical education, the clinical community, and the health care delivery system. The Clinical Education Coordinator is responsible for all courses that include a clinical component, and other courses assigned within the coordinator's expertise. The Clinical Education Coordinator develops, conducts, coordinates, and evaluates the clinical education program. The clinical education coordinator will be responsible for assigning, monitoring, and evaluating students during clinical affiliations. In addition, this individual will have all the duties and responsibilities of a full-time instructor.

Requirements

  • Master of Physical Therapy degree Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Have at least three (3) years of full-time post-licensure experience that includes a minimum of two years (or equivalent) of full-time experience as a site coordinator of clinical education or clinical instructor in physical therapy; or, the individual must have a minimum of two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a PTA program.
  • Hold an active, unencumbered PT license in any United States jurisdiction and is compliant with the Physical Therapy Practice Act in North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruiting part-time faculty and make recommendations to the program coordinator and/or the Associate Dean.
  • Assist in the mentorship and training of part-time faculty and assist in implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
  • Assume responsibility for clinic management as recommended and approved by the program coordinator and the department chair.
  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the Associate Dean and approved by the Vice President.
  • Serve as the designated Physical Therapy Assistant Clinical Education Coordinator for courses that include a clinical education component.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
  • Coordinate didactic, lab, and/or clinical learning experiences.
  • Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACS-approved competencies.
  • Assist the program coordinator in obtaining appropriate clinical facilities.
  • Assign students to clinical sites and/or lab.
  • Use a process to determine if the academic regulations, policies, and procedures related to clinical education are upheld by faculty, students, and clinical education faculty (CCCEs and CIs) and takes appropriate corrective actions, when necessary.
  • Request supplies and materials for labs, supervise labs, and prepare lab activities and assignments as needed.
  • Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor in supervision of students as applicable.
  • Conduct in a professional manner all class hours as assigned by the course schedule and academic calendar.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records including attendance and grade reports, roll books, etc.
  • Communicate necessary information about the clinical education program to faculty, clinical education sites, clinical education faculty, and students and facilitate communication about clinical education between these groups, as needed.
  • Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course providing appropriate remediation as needed.
  • The Physical Therapy Assistant Clinical Education Coordinator, using information provided by the clinical education faculty and other information as needed, is ultimately responsible for assessment of student learning in the clinical education experiences.
  • Perform all other administrative and instructional duties required of a clinical education coordinator by the agency or association that certifies, accredits, or approves the program and/or course(s) for which this individual has responsibility.
  • Ensure that there are effective written agreements between the institution and the clinical education sites that describe the rights and responsibilities of both, including those of their respective agents. Agreements address at a minimum: the purpose of the agreement; the objectives of the institution and the clinical education site in establishing the agreement; the rights and responsibilities of the institution and the clinical education site; and the procedures to be followed in reviewing, revising, and terminating the agreement.
  • Meet with students regarding their academic progress on a regular basis.
  • Post office hours each semester, providing copies for the division chair and dean, and meeting all posted office hours.
  • Conduct classes on time and for the full duration of the published class time.
  • Determines if the clinical education faculty are meeting the needs of the program. This determination is based at a minimum on the assessment, in collaboration with the CCCE, of the clinical education provided by Clinical instructors.
  • Maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary.
  • Participate in departmental activities related to revising and updating the program(s) within the area of expertise.
  • Assist with the development of new programs within the area of expertise.
  • Provide assistance to advisees as needed and required.
  • Participate in department, division, and college-wide advising activities.
  • Learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.
  • Use the computer and the college's student information system to assist advisees.
  • Follow up on all assigned advisees.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
  • Partner with PTA program coordinator and Associate Dean in the leadership of the team, assist with recruitment, interviewing, and training employees, assist in the planning, assigning, and directing of departmental work.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental goals to ensure alignment with college goals and vision.
  • Attending all mandatory divisional and college-wide meetings and graduation ceremonies.
  • Coach and provide ongoing performance feedback to employees, set realistic and measurable performance goals, and ensure employees have appropriate professional development opportunities. Effectively manage performance and assist employees to meet established College standards and expectations.
  • Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise, teaching and learning, the use of educational technology, and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes.
  • Demonstrate practice of fostering a welcoming environment in the classroom and among your team, as well as experience working in a diverse environment.
  • Ensure that students meet all accreditation requirements, including number of completed clinical hours, midterm and final evaluations, and benchmarks as noted.
