About The Position

Serve as an adjunct instructor for classes offered in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of best practices in physical therapy.
  • Knowledge of assessment of student learning.
  • Knowledge of active learning instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to utilize various equipment and procedures commonly seen in physical therapy.
  • Ability to multitask to meet multiple demands.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a multi-cultural population.
  • Ability to operate various computer and audio-visual equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Current or eligible for licensure as a PT or PTA in the state of Kansas.
  • Three (3) years (or the equivalent) of full-time experience as a PT or PTA.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or higher.
  • Licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Experience as a classroom or clinical instructor.
  • Experience working with impairments commonly seen in an outpatient orthopedic setting.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard Ultra.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance, including current grades in course(s) taught.
  • Convene the assigned class in accordance with college policy.
  • Use instructional methods that emphasize application, cooperation, and collaboration, engaging students actively in their studies and encouraging them to develop higher-order thinking skills as independent learners.
  • Organize and explain content using methods that are appropriate for students with varying abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Assign and provide feedback for out-of-class work; monitor student progress.
  • Perform student and course assessment according to college requirements.
  • Comply with standards, policies, and procedures of KCKCC, the Kansas Board of Health Arts, and the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
  • Utilizes student-centered and active learning teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  • Other duties as assigned to advance the program and institutional missions.
