About The Position

Under general supervision, operates and maintains various mechanical systems and equipment used to operate facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates and maintains Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems; checks mechanical systems operations, changes filters and belts, and lubricates components in accordance with manufacture, design, and operating procedures; reports operational irregularities and repair needs to supervisor. Manages supplies for preventative plant maintenance; maintains proper service records. Conducts scheduled and routine inspections, testing, and service of plant equipment; adjusts, repairs, and services equipment as required. Creates work orders and reports as required or applicable for proper plant maintenance. Performs chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water systems and cooling tower condenser water systems; follows manufacturer's directions for use and dilution of all chemicals and cleaning products. Records daily readings or measurements of all major equipment. Records daily readings or measures of all major equipment, including but not limited to air supply temperatures, water temperatures and pressures readings; documents and inspects for irregularities in reading recording data, reports equipment malfunctions, and performs actions as directed to correct abnormal operating conditions or emergency situations. Performs maintenance repairs including, but not limited to belt and filter replacement, remove fan belt guards, remove, and lift condenser coil guards, lame replacement, and minor plumbing work. Controls work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition. Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries; reports security issues and illegal activities; performs office duties as needed. Provides customer service as needed, responds to requests, and assists co-workers and visitors. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures. Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND four (4) years of experience operating and maintaining boiler/chiller plants; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
  • Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
  • Knowledge of: Materials and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of: Federal and state safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of: Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of: Building equipment and systems such as, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and security.
  • Knowledge of: Techniques for use and storage of chemicals, including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
  • Skill in: Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
  • Skill in: Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Skill in: Working independently to complete daily activities.
  • Skill in: Safely using tools, equipment, and chemicals.

  • A valid Minnesota State Driver's License is required.
  • A valid Boiler Operator's Chief C license from Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry is required.
