About The Position

Job Title: Physical Education Teacher Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction-(ACAGJ) FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Dean of Upper School Work Hours/Days: Faculty Calendar, typically school days from 7:00 to 3:45, and 3:30 to 4:30 one day per week, plus professional development days Salary Range: $46,500-60,000 annually, depending on experience and education Desired Start Date : August 2026, with required attendance at teacher training conference in Hillsdale, MI, in June of 2026 Essential Functions: Organize, prepare, and facilitate at least one community building event or opportunity during the school year featuring physical education Foster a professional relationship in collaboration with the co-curricular team Prepare unit and weekly/daily lesson plans following curriculum guidelines for each year Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods Assign, collect, grade and return graded work in a timely manner Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year) Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions Collaborate with Student Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others Communicate regularly with parents Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule Participate in professional development as offered by ACAGJ and Hillsdale College's K12 Maintain confidentiality in student records Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners Effectively communicate with supervisor and teammates Complete all required training and provide documentation Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 36 credit hours in Education or a fitness related field (Colorado Teaching license is NOT required)

  • Must be able to supervise outdoor duties throughout the day

Nice To Haves

  • A strong preference is given to candidates with a Physical Education degree and/or certification in teaching pedagogies
