About The Position

The Torrance Unified School District consists of 17 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools, 1 continuation, and 1 alternative high school. The District also has 3 adult school campuses. Torrance Unified was established in 1947 and unified in 1948, and is nestled in the heart of the South Bay, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County. Our District is bordered by the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south, the beach cities - Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach - to the west, and the cities of Lawndale and Hawthorne to the north. The District serves the entire City of Torrance and is governed by five school board members from five trustee areas. Requirements

  • Must possess a valid California Single Subject Physical Education (initial issuance before 2022).
  • Must have CLAD or English Learner Authorization.
  • CBEST (or other qualifying basic skills requirement as outlined by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing) is required.
  • Copy of Transcript (Official or Un-Official)
  • Credential Copy (document MUST SHOW document number and current expiration date with authorizations listed)
  • English Learner Authorization (or CLAD)
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (Two letters of recommendation written within the last year)

  • Test Results/Materials (CBEST)

Responsibilities

  • Provide planned instruction in each subject assigned to teach.
  • Follow course of study specified in state law and school district regulations.
  • Provide learning experiences to encourage maximum growth for each student.
  • Select and use appropriate materials available in the district for students and subjects assigned.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and communicate with parents and staff on the individual pupil's progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and consult with other professional staff records, in assessing and helping pupils solve health, behavioral, and learning problems.
  • Maintain basic student records as required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, with colleagues, and between school and home.
  • Establish a standard of classroom control that allows effective learning to take place.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is conducive to the growth of student responsibility and self-control.
  • Encourage an atmosphere that stimulates inquiry, self-expression, and individual growth.
  • Share equally, insofar as possible, in the supervision of pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
  • Share equally, insofar as possible, in faculty responsibilities during the working day.
  • Share in the supervision and/or sponsorship of student activities in terms of teacher interests and school needs.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
  • Perform business services as required.
  • Participate in community-school relations.
