About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking an energetic and student-centered Physical Education (PE) Teacher (K–8) to join our team at the Nellis Campus in Las Vegas for the 2026–2027 school year. The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging instruction that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, and sportsmanship. The ideal candidate will create a structured and inclusive environment where scholars build physical skills, develop confidence, and learn the importance of lifelong health and wellness. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe that all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and data-informed teaching practices.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Education, or a related field
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
  • Successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Nevada state requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience teaching physical education in a K–8 or middle school setting
  • Experience working in Title I or high-need school environments
  • Experience supporting English Language Learners (ELLs)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned physical education instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and Nevada Academic Content Standards.
  • Teach students foundational skills related to physical fitness, movement, coordination, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students with varying physical abilities and skill levels.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback that supports skill development and personal growth.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive peer interactions during activities.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and inclusive physical education environment.
  • Implement PBIS and proactive behavior management strategies.
  • Support students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors and encourage student accountability.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to support school-wide initiatives and student engagement.
  • Contribute to school events, wellness initiatives, and extracurricular activities when applicable.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning aligned with AMS instructional priorities.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and participation.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
  • Support family engagement opportunities related to student wellness and physical activity.
