About The Position

Enfield Public Schools seeks an enthusiastic and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to support middle school learners in developing lifelong fitness habits, essential motor skills, and personal wellness. This educator will foster a positive and inclusive environment where all students—regardless of ability or learning profile—can access high-quality PE instruction. The role emphasizes building physical, social, and self-management skills that help students succeed in schoolwide programming and daily life.

Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut certification in Physical Education (044 or equivalent) & 043 Health, PK–12.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and support a variety of skill levels.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered wellness education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with middle school learners.
  • Familiarity with adapted/inclusive PE methods.
  • Ability to integrate fitness technology and activity tracking.
  • Experience incorporating social-emotional learning into PE instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate PE lessons aligned to district curriculum and national standards.
  • Use evidence-based strategies to strengthen physical literacy, fitness, and fundamental motor skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, fitness levels, and abilities.
  • Incorporate inclusive PE practices such as clear routines, visual supports, explicit modeling, scaffolding, and UDL-aligned lesson design.
  • Promote a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment emphasizing teamwork, effort, and respect.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, and general education staff to ensure accessible PE experiences for all students.
  • Communicate frequently with families to support student progress and wellness habits.
  • Work with school counselors, nurses, and student support teams to promote whole-child well-being.
  • Use rubrics, performance benchmarks, and skills assessments to monitor growth.
  • Adjust instruction based on data to provide targeted support or enrichment.
  • Maintain accurate student records in accordance with district expectations.
  • Build student confidence, resilience, and personal responsibility regarding physical activity.
  • Reinforce character skills such as cooperation, sportsmanship, perseverance, and self-advocacy.
  • Encourage students to explore a wide range of physical activities that support lifelong wellness.
